- If you're using a utility knife, score
the panel first, then bend the vinyl panel back and forth until it snaps
cleanly on the score line.
- When using a power saw, use a fine-tooth
blade with the balde reversed, and go slowly.
- Use double-action aviation snips,
starting at the top interlock and continuing toward the bottom of the siding
panel.
Allowing for
Expansion and Contraction
It is imperative that vinyl siding be nailed
so that expansion and contraction are not restricted. Panels must be cut
in lengths to allow for expansion. Always leave a 1/4" gap for expansion
wherever siding meets accessories.
Nailing Tips
- Nails should be centered in nail slots.
- Nail only until the hammer head touches
edges of nailing strip. Allow approximately 1/16" between nail head
and vinyl panel. This permits expansion and contraction and also prevents
dimpling.
- Drive nails straight and level; crooked
nails will distrot siding panels and cause buckling.
- Never face nail!
- Never pull siding tight when nailing.
Stretching the panel out of shape will distrot the lap joint. Just push
up on panel until full lock contact is made, then nail in place.
- Nails should be spaced 12" to
16" on center.
