Autumn Feelings
-andy

A hollow, bone chilling wind blows.
The sound of the few remaining, lonely leaves rustle in the trees.
Then one or two more break away and fall to their demise.
The cold wet dew on the leaf covered grass is just the beginning.
Sunshine and warmth give way to shorter days and colder, longer, darker nights.
Death is in the air.
Nature slows, and most will surly die.
Early morning song from the birds, no more.
Nature's great exodus for fear of death to come.
Most leave in search of happier places, those that stay fall into a deep sleep to escape the dying wasteland.
The air is filled with the faint odor of damp decay.
Once this has begun all will be blanketed with rain, snow, and ice to be sure the destruction is complete.
Then, after the long winter all will be rebuilt only to be torn down and devastated once more.

or maybe..

The cool crisp air fills my lungs with the faint, warming, flavor-full smell of a burning leaves.
The clear blue sky seems wide open to the possibilities of things to come.
The bright greens and reds of the spring and summer are giving way to the cheerful multi-colored landscape of fall.
Large, bright orange gourds and straw accent the doorsteps and porches of the houses along the streets.
Children, bundled up in coats and mittens laugh and play in piles of fallen leaves.
Static visions are now in motion and the metamorphosis has begun.
Excitement is in the air as wildlife prepares for the cold weather to come.
Squirrels gather nuts and berries for their hibernation through the winter.
Birds and geese flock together and fly south for warmer winds.
And as the air becomes increasingly cold and the rain turns to snow there is a peaceful calm that falls over the land.
Almost as if nature is at rest, a well deserved slumber in preparation for all to come next spring.
